Evaluation

I am very happy with the final outcome for the River Island event.
Not only with the event but also working as a team. I think we all managed to work well together and therefore this has been reflected in our final event and details.

When we were first given the brief we had just planned a basic night event with River Island as our sponsor. Now with have an in-depth event that I think is original, innovative and unique. Not only reflecting what I wanted to bring into the event but something that has united everyone's ideas and wants.

I think that by working as a team meant that we had the support of each other and if we didn't get the work done the project would fall apart. By giving each other delegations to look into we were able to move forward effectively and constructively. We were also able to help each other if we got stuck and each individual helped with the natural progression.

During this project I think that we all had our own skills that we could put together throughout. I found that with my computer knowledge and ability to quickly put together work digitally meant that I could give something to the group that was essential.

I found my strength in the trailer project where I discovered that I really enjoyed making videos, something I have never done before but picked up very quickly. This therefore lead to the quirky balloon promo and postcard stop motion videos. This is defiantly something I want to look into in future projects as I find it an easy way to document work in a quick, simple way that also effectively gives out information without an overload of text.

I think the most important moment for me was being able to put together our work, however I also learnt that as a group we may not always agree on something and it is this communication that makes us develop our work.

For example I was really pleased with the first trailer that we made, however the rest of the group felt that it did not communicate our ideas in the best way, after evaluation I can see why the group saw this and sometimes you need another person to tell you that something isn't working because you can get attached to a project.

When we re-did the trailer I was not happy with it as it I felt it lacked visual communication but it was too late to change it. I think this was a moment when we perhaps didn't plan enough and work together.
When we had the evaluation of the trailer we were told that it was too much like a presentation and needed to have less information.
Third time round we were all there whilst I put the trailer together. We also developed the second trailer into our presentation so that in the end the negatives were put into positives, by doing this together we were able to give feedback on what we all wanted to show.

Something I also discovered was that I really enjoyed the visuals we were shown in lectures. I found that the videos and imagery worked the best for me as I remember things in pictures. It also helped me to develop the visuals shown in the lectures towards what we wanted to create. Something I have enjoyed doing is collecting imagery.

I think I would have done a better job if I had learnt more about promotion. Although I did look at examples we were shown in lectures and also looked into other artists examples, I found that I got stuck on one idea about the balloons and didn't progress it enough. I think it might have worked better if someone in the group that was more creative in their way of communication had worked on this. I think Lou's flyers and posters showed that she was very talented at this and I think she would have been able to develop this better than I did.

In response to this, I think that perhaps I should have done the technical/digital work as I found this was my strength and what I could give best to the group and eventually ended up doing this.

I think if I was to re-do this project, I would start by collecting a lot of research and then developing it. However I am very pleased with our event proposal. I think if we get the go ahead with River Island we will find natural problems that we hadn't thought through, but at the moment I think we have covered everything whilst keeping to our own initial ideas.

Lou's Flyers

As well as pre-events, T-shirts and cake stalls we will also be handing out flyers and putting up posters advertising our event. Lou being the arty girl in the group, put together some flyers and posters to promote our event. I think she has really caught the essence of our event in a fun and quirky way. Because of the simplicity and tongue in cheek vibe the images give out means that they are easily recognisable and people remember them.

3rd Time Lucky

After our trailer feedback it was discussed that our second trailer was too much like a presentation, (we will work on this for our final presentation). Where the first trailer had too little information and our second trailer had too much information, we needed to make something that portrayed our idea without giving away the whole event, something that would keep people intrigued. We therefore decided to show pictures of people holding up the postcards they had done. By doing this it shows what we want people to do but leaves the viewer wanting to know more information.

T-Shirt Design

To help promote our event we want to wear t-shirts around uni to make people recognise our event. The t-shirts will be pre bought in the River Island colours and we will then print them using the printing rooms at uni. Because the colours are all very bright we hope this will gain attention and distinguish our event from others, it will also help students to know who to go to if they want to get involved, need information or want tickets.
My design is just simple text saying the event name and then the website on the back of the T-shirt to show where to look for more information.
I think if we arrange the event using networking sites like facebook, myspace and twitter will be ideal to set up a page for the event that people can easily go to and identify with.

Collecting Fashion Secrets!

At the craft club that I went along to I also brought some blank postcards for people to fill in. This was incredibly successful, I just went around talking to people and asking if they wanted to be part of our event. Nobody I asked said no to joining in and within the first 5 minutes i had handed out all of the 22 postcards that I had brought along! Out of the 22 I handed out, I got 20 back which was very successful and showed how willing people are to join in. Many of the people that had written down their secret were happy to have their photo taken as well! One great way of promotion is to get people involved and to talk about your ideas...people are naturally curious!

I think it is key for us to constantly be talking to people and trying to get people involved. The craft club is a great way to get artistic people involved as well as the usual customers who often go to 60 Million.

Craft Club at 60 Million Postcards!

This month was the 1st craft club of this term! Every 1st Wednesday of every month craft club is held at 60 Million Postcards where a mix of artistic mayhem, with all sorts of materials available are available to get people in the creative mood! So I went along to see what all the fuss was about!

Although its something I wouldn't usually do on a night out, I had a great time as so did many others, in fact the place was packed out! Whats nice is to see that a live art event really does work and it shows that people love to join in. The reason I went along was to get a good idea of how our venue would work as a live artistic event and I was pleasantly surprised with how successful it was!

I think it is clear that an event like this works very well as so many people like to get involved. It gives us the opportunity to look into having somewhere where people can make their own postcards at the event dependent on space there is!

The Venue - 60 Million Postcards

The venue for our event will be 60 Million Postcards! We felt the venue related really well with our fashion secret postcards as it links with the title of 60 Million Postcards. Luckily for us 60 Mil love students events and like to encourage the student scene, the venue is also free so that would keep costs at a low because most venues were over £800! The venue only holds 500 people but being this restrictive may entice people to buy tickets quickly!
