For our final trailer Roz put together a postcard backdrop and then put the images on top. By doing this we could include descriptions of what our event will have and the order of events. This is a lot more effective then the other trailer as it shows what we actually want to have at the event.

Final Trailer
For our final trailer Roz put together a postcard backdrop and then put the images on top. By doing this we could include descriptions of what our event will have and the order of events. This is a lot more effective then the other trailer as it shows what we actually want to have at the event.
Music to Trailer
For the trailer we thought about music that would relate to our subject of postsecrets. Roz found the song Dirty Little Secrets by the All American Rejects. This linked really well as in the chorus it talks about keeping secrets.
I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret, hope that you can keep it)
My dirty little secret.
The video also relates really well as it shows people holding up secrets written on postcards. This is a great find!

Postbox design.

For the collection of our secrets we will place postboxes in the River Island stores at our venue and around student areas such as the library and the student union. I took the colour scheme of River Island and used it in a similar way as the River Island Rocks image. For the box I just used an old shoe box but I think within our budget we could invest in something that looked more professional. We would also place postcards next to the boxes to encourage people to post then and there.
The video I have done is a stop motion animation where I took a series of photographs and then animated them. I think this gives a good indication on the range of secrets we hope to gather.
Balloon Promotion!
I did a short stop motion video to show how I would use my original balloon idea. The idea would be to then release the balloons in a student area and have the promotion floating around in a fun and interesting way.
Venues!
The Litten Tree:
Cost - free
Capacity - 650
The Litten Tree is a free venue with a projector already installed so we could show our fashion secrets and garments that had been designed throughout the night.
The space is great for a catwalk or live models. However, the problem is that the Litten Tree is a very big venue and it has a big back garden so that often the venue will look empty if everyone is in the garden. I think if we consider our event to be here we need to think of a way to keep people inside so that it entices people to come along.

Walkabout:
Capacity - 500
Walkabout seemed quite a good choice for our event because they also have a screen installed where we could show our fashion secrets and some of the outfits designed. There didn't seem to be any problems with the layout of the venue, the only problem could arrive dependent on what night our event is. The reason being that Walkabout is a big concise where the majority of people go before a night out. I therefore think that we would struggle to get a weekend night if we wanted to.

60 Million Postcards:
Cost - free
Capacity - 500
60 Million Postcards seems an ideal venue for our event. Not only does the name link well with out fashion postcard secret theme but it also holds similar events like the one we are planning. This would mean that a lot of the customers that usually go to 60 Million Postcards would probably be more agreeable to this type of event. The problem with 60 Million Postcards is that if we want a catwalk we will have to think of a way around it as the layout if fairly constricted with the bar, table layout and pillars.

River Island Rocks title page!
River Island Colour's
Make Do & Mend!

During the event we want to organise a catwalk to keep people's 'fashion interests' in mind. Our original idea was to use write-off's from River Island and then have workshops where the clothes could be re-vamped by fashion, textile and costume students. However head-office would not allow us information on what was done with the clothes so we have had to come up with a different idea.
The recent Make Do & Mend photo-shoot in November Issue of Vogue relates so well with what we are looking at doing. It shows how everyday items such as plastic bag and loo rolls (something that is also cheap!) can be made into outfits. When you put your mind to it anything can be created! This is defiantly D.I.Y at it's best!
(Also if you click the images it shows you the details of what the outfits are made from and the price used to make them!)

Kingsmill Confessions
I thought that the recent Kingsmill adverts related really well with our fashion secrets idea. The adverts are based on confessions to do with bread, very similar to our fashion confessions. I also found their website was interesting as it encourages the public to get involved and tell their confessions. This puts to point how people like to share stories and confess, there is also a chance to win money if you are their favourite that month and there may be a chance that the sent in confession will feature in their advert! They also walk the streets and get people to confess, this is a great idea that would work well in the collecting of fashion secrets!Wednesday, 21 October 2009
Trailer Ideas
Lou found this video because she liked the way it was filmed. I think it is a good example of how a simple video can be put forward to demonstrate our idea in a cheap easy way.
She also found this ad for the PostSecret which is a montage of postcards sent in. I really like the way each shot blends into the next giving it a nice sense of flow throughout.
Roz showed us this video by an AIB 3rd year that showed a good example and use of stop motion.
On the stop motion theme I found this caterpillar development video, but I think if we did the whole trailer in stop motion it would take too long to create. Therefore we will probably combine both of the video techniques to illustrate out fashion secret idea.

Vice Social - Camera Shy?

Recently in Brighton a club night has been set up which is run by students for students. One of their recent events was to give out disposable cameras on the night and let people take photos. At the end of the night the cameras were given back and they then developed them and put them online.
This was a nice take to a night out because it made people want to join in. What I love about the photographs is the raw look they have, unlike professional photographs that are usually taken at club nights you get flaws like a finger in the lens. Also with a disposable camera in means you are unable to delete a photograph, this stops further editing. I think by doing something similar we would encourage students to join in and want to come along to the event.

Pandamonium
I felt that the Pandamonium idea related well to our Fashion Secrets idea, in the fact that they have given each artist the same brief (the panda) and then each artist/designer creates a panda to go in the exhibition at Selfridges.
I thought this was similar in the way we are introducing a secret to each artist and getting them to illustrate them to be displayed at the event.
It shows how someone creates something different despite the same subject and hopefully gives us an indication on how successful collaborating with other students would vary on our final installation.

Banksy!

When it comes to Guerrilla marketing, Banksy has to be at the top. He has a way of producing art that is comical yet carries a deeper meaning, often pointing out something under our noses that we usually ignore. Although I would not be able to do something similar after all Guerrilla marketing is illegal and showcasing it on a blog wouldn't really be undisclosed, I think Bansky is a great example of how art can make people take interest and can relate to.
Poster Boy

I felt that Poster Boy's take on advertising was really inspirational.Poster Boy takes elements from everyday adverts and uses them to alter and create new images with new meanings. I think it creates an interesting image that makes people look and take note.
We see thousands of advertising everyday so something that makes you stop and look is really key! This is something I need to address when I look at the advertising for our event.
Students need something that they can relate to and I think that needs to be included in the advertisement. Luckily being at the Art Institute everyone has a pretty adaptable mind when it comes to the slightly unusual and artistic ways of advertising!

Elvis in Postcard!
Yuka Oyama
Berlin Flowers -

I was inspired by Yuka Oyama's Berlin Flowers, a community collaborated project. Three buildings in Berlin were decorated with thousands of garlands. The idea was to bring the community together and indeed it did, bringing together 500 participants and giving the buildings new life and social meaning.
What I think is key in this project was the collaboration of the community. Without this the project would not have been feasible.
I think this is something that would be interesting to include in the post card idea. Maybe as a way of advertising we could decorate the university with garlands of postcards, we could also get the students to collaborate decorating a social area of the university.

Balloon Idea!

After looking at the Bubble Project I started to think of ways I could advertise in an interesting way that is different to the usual flyers and posters.
When I was doing my Art Foundation course one of the students did an installation with balloons, afterwards he just left them and they found their way into the student areas and car park. This was a great visual effect and many people became interested and interacted with the balloons.
I was thinking that perhaps if I wrote on the balloons the details of the event and then let them out in student areas something similar might happen. It would also be a cheap and easy way to advertise.

Sticker Wall
'Appeel is a virus spreading through interacting individuals'
The sticker wall is an installation set up in a public space that encourages individuals to take part. The wall had been covered with an orange sticker surface which individual circular shapes were cut to make a huge wall of stickers. People would then take off the stickers and re-stick to create new images. I think this idea works perfectly with what we are trying to create. By making a project that is visually enhancing and getting people to participate makes everyone feel more involved and a part of something. This is a key element that we want to enhance in our secret fashion idea!

Paul Buttler - Collage Party

Paul Butlers College Party is a collaboration of Artists to create art together in a fun and interesting way. I thought this was a good example of how our Fashion Secret idea could work. What I particularly like with the photographs are the examples of work shown on the wall. I think something similar would work well on the installation wall piece we have in mind.
PostSecret
After writing down our initial ideas and brainstorming, Lou came across the video PostSecret by Frank Warren.
PostSecret is an ongoing project in which people email in their postcards telling their secrets and illustrating them.
Our idea is to develop this idea and put it towards the River Island event by getting people to post secrets which are fashion related into boxes around uni and in the River Island stores. We could then collect all the secrets and get artists to illustrate the best ones. We would then put up an installation at the event showing the secret postcards and illustrations. By doing this we would encourage people to take part in the event and thus making them want to attend.
